The New Surface Go from Microsoft

new surface go office 365The new Surface Go offers ultra-portable mobility and great versatility. Starting at 1.15 lbs it gives you laptop performance and the portability of a tablet. Featuring excellent design, a wide-range kickstand and running Windows 10 with Office 365. A noteworthy 10” touch-enabled IPS display with Gorilla Glass 3. It has all the high-quality design of a Surface tablet: magnesium casing, fully adjustable kickstand, Windows Hello enabled camera and a keyboard connector.

The Surface Go 64GB is the base model.  It includes 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC hard drive.

The Surface Go 128GB model includes 8GB RAM and a faster 128GB SSD hard drive.

There’s rumored to be a 256GB configuration coming sometime later this year as well.  For now, you can add more storage with the micro SD slot located under the kickstand. It has built-in HD cameras with a Windows Hello enabled front-facing camera, USB-C (can be used for data, display, and charging), fast-charging with Surface Connect, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The drawing abilities on the Surface Go are awesome. You can use your fingertip or the Surface Pen*. This low-cost 2-in-1 is streamlined for security and superior performance.

New Surface Go – The Good

The Surface Go is meant to be the smaller, lighter, less expensive version of the Surface Pro, therefore, don’t expect it to replace your desktop computer.  Overall, this is a nice little tablet.  It’s a definite step down in processing power, but it’s a great small lightweight device that is great for an on the go lifestyle.

  • With up to 9 hours of battery life, manage business needs, stream movies or enhance your creativity
  • Ultra-portable mobility, and great versatility, for those users who are seeking a smaller and more compact secondary device
  • Switching from S mode to Windows 10 Home is free and easy  (note: if you want to upgrade to the pro version of Windows 10, you would have to pay $99)
  • Lightweight, even with keyboard cover
  • It can run Linux
  • Works with ubuntu 18.04 out of the box, with minor tweaks to get wifi working
  • Great build quality
  • The type cover keyboard layout is standard*
  • Bright 1800 x 1200 (217 PPI) touchscreen display

New Surface Go – The Bad

  • The Surface Go can run hot after using it for a while
  • Performance is sluggish for some multitasking
  • Limited disk space.  Instead of having 64GB or 128GB of usable disk space, you’ll likely have about 40GB or 100GB, keep this in mind when purchasing the Surface Go
  • Scrolling can be a little jerky at times
  • Surface Go features Windows 10 S in Home Mode. You are able to switch out of Windows 10 S, based on your preferences, but please keep in mind, once you switch out of Windows 10 S, this cannot be reverted

This is a highly efficient, budget-friendly 2-in-1 capable of doing almost anything and is able to compete with other top brands. Microsoft is pushing what powerful hardware can fit into these laptops and we are excited to see them continue to push the limits of technology. It’s the perfect small lightweight device great for what most people do on their computers – web-surfing, streaming video, and using online apps or apps from the Windows Store. This model is great for anyone who relies on cloud storage and who don’t plan on using apps outside the Windows Store.
