AMS Printing Problem Solution# SOL25149
Description
When a user(s) who have Windows 7 tries to Print, Email, or use the SaveAsPDF feature from eforms the application hangs or freezes. This occurs for one of two reasons, in some instances with Windows 7 during the installation the AMSPDFPrinter251 printing driver is not assigned a printer port in other instances the printing driver is set to LPT1 and the actual OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer e.g. Dell, HP, Sony, Acer, etc) did not properly configure this type of port.
Procedure
*IMPORTANT NOTE* If a freeze has already occurred as described in this article changing the port may not be sufficient. You will need to first reinstall the AMSPDFPrinter driver using the steps provided in SOL20991 and then change the port as described below before attempting to Print or Email to PDF.
1.) Go to Start > Devices and Printers
2.) Right-Click on AMSPDFPrinter251
3.) Click on Printer Properties (If you do not have access to this you may have to change your security from Administrator to Other > Administrator in User setup)
4.) Click on the Ports tab
5.) Select Add Port…
6.) Select Local Port
7.) Select New Port…
8.) Name it e.g. AMS360
9.) Click OK
10.) Click Close
11.) Click Apply
The new port should now be the default port for AMSPDFPrinter251
12.) Click Close
If you continue to get the freeze you may have to restart the print spooler service.
13.) Try again (note if using Office 2010 you may have to have Outlook open; Outlook 2010 changed the way other program can integrate with it)
